Although it may not seem like it, let me remind you that March 20th was the first official day of spring. The terms “snow” and “unseasonably cold weather” have still been a part of our vernacular these past few weeks. And I think we probably all agree that we’ve had enough of winter.
Don’t let Mother Nature get the best of you! You should continue to plan for the best season in the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana area – summer! I personally can’t wait for the salt to be off the roads. We have polished the chrome on the Harley and are making plans with the American Legion Riders who will be participating in their first charity ride of the season in May. And I encourage my friends and colleagues to make sure they have reviewed their insurance protection for all of their recreation vehicles before the roar of the engines begins!
Did you know that your auto and home policies rarely provide protection for your recreational vehicles? And if they do, it is quite limited and restrictive. Summer adventures are right around the corner and it is important to protect all of the toys that enhance your summer fun. Whether it has two wheels, four wheels or no wheels at all, your recreational vehicles need to be protected in a similar manner to your vehicles and home.
- Motorcycle insurance is as varied as the bikes on the road. It is quite possible that your chrome wheels, saddlebags and most importantly, the guest rider may not be covered should a loss occur.
- Watercraft insurance may only protect your liability or could be so elaborate that when your cell phone falls out of your pocket into the lake or that large mouth bass runs off with your fishing pole, they can be covered.
- Your camper or trailer may need separate liability insurance if it’s parked at a site for the season. And, of course, all of the personal property that you store in it for the season is covered – or is it? Did you know that an insurance policy can provide for the cost of a motel room if your trailer breaks down on the road?
These are just a few of the reasons that you should call your insurance agent before you begin your summer adventures. Don’t wait until tragedy strikes, to find out that you are not protected. It is always best to discuss your options with a qualified insurance professional who will assist you in the process, from providing quotes for a pending new purchase to reviewing your policy on an annual basis to make certain that you are properly protected as your needs change.
