Remember last February’s historic blizzard, when over 20 inches of snow fell in some areas, and days went by before everyone was shoveled out? Who knows if history will repeat itself, but why take chances? Why not just get out of town? The Standard Bank Travel Club makes it easy.
Our February trip is a 16-day motor coach tour to deep in the heart of Texas, and the glorious beaches of South Padre Island. Like all Travel Club vacations, this trip is exclusively for Standard Bank customers, and is meticulously planned for us by Mayflower Tours, who take care of all the details, allowing you to relax and enjoy every minute.
Your trip begins when Mayflower Tours picks you up at your home, so all you have to do is pack your bags. As the luxuriously appointed motor coach heads south, stopping for the night in Eureka, Missouri and Tulsa, Oklahoma, you can relax and get to know your traveling companions.
Your stay in the Lone Star State begins in Austin, with a tour of the LBJ Library and Museum. Then it’s on to South Padre Island, located at the tropical tip of Texas, on the Gulf of Mexico. Planned activities include visits to a sea turtle rescue facility and a birding and nature center, dolphin watching with an experienced guide and a marine ecology cruise. But there’s also plenty of time to explore this sun-kissed paradise on your own, visiting local museums and the historic Port Isabel Lighthouse, relaxing on the beautiful beaches and taking in the breathtaking sunsets.
All this fresh air and sunshine will help you work up an appetite for an authentic Texas-style barbecue, cooked over a mesquite wood fire. It’s just a part of your visit to the famous King Ranch, where you’ll also learn about the history of this world’s largest ranch and the family who made their fortune there. The trip concludes with two nights in picturesque San Antonio, with tours of the Riverwalk, the Mission San Jose, and, of course, the Alamo.
As the motor coach heads back to Chicago, where hopefully the snow will have melted and spring will be on the way, you can share the highlights of the trip with your traveling companions, knowing that you’ll all “remember the Alamo” for a very long time.
